(Integrating Ideas) – Be able to integrate their ideas with others using summary, paraphrase, quotation, analysis, and analysis of relevant sources.
Integrating Sources to me has never been a hard thing to do, but it is a great way of getting your point across and expressing to the reader what you are talking about. The one hard part about it is what quote to chose or what source to chose so it flows nicely within your essay. It is important to make sure that your use of outside sources is integrated smoothly into your own writing. This means that the language and tone of the sources should be compatible with your own writing style, and that you provide context and analysis to help the reader understand how the sources relate to your own ideas. This is something that Prof. Brod helped me with me doing and it made my essays a lot stronger.
Reading “They Say, I Say”, and learning about “quote sandwiches” helped me organize my paragraphs with having an explanation before the quote, then adding the quote and analyzing the quote to express my argument.
This semester integrating sources helped me add my own personal experiences related to the quotes. That is something that I did not do in high school because we were not allowed to add our own ideas to the essay. An example of when I used a quote while talking about a personal experience is attached below.

Integrating Sources on Essay #3
This was definitely one of my stronger paragraphs for sure, and this section of the paragraph definitely made it a lot stronger. I was not even thinking about adding this until peer review occurred and it really made me think about where I could add a personal experience to my essay as well as include a source. Although I did not set up the quote as well as I should have, I still believe that it flows nicely in terms of what I’m attempting to talk about.

Quote Sandwich from Essay #2
A quote sandwich is something that I have been doing throughout my writing life, but I did not even realize that I had been doing it. Once I was aware of the concept, it really improved my overall structure of my paragraphs and it flowed nicely as I had a better understanding of what I was actually doing. Integrating sources and using a quote sandwich is a great way of getting any point across because it is structured and fluent.
