Jimmy Hulland – Reflection – My Relationship with Sports
Looking back at the presentation of Angelina, I feel that the process overall went well and it ended up being super fun honestly. Things that went well was the preparation itself and organization overall, I thought I did a good job organizing. The questions structured the story in a natural way, and Angelina’s responses provided a lot about her experience with basketball and how it made her who she is. Adding the direct quotes, such as what she had informed her brother about herself, gave the presentation a personal and authentic feel and I thought that really helped the audience to better relate to what she went through. The rhythm also worked for me, it felt slow instead of rushed, which allowed my classmates to really be able listen to her experience, and think through it.
If I changed it, I would add more visuals like others did as this kind of highlights her relationship more, and to just be more engaging. The writing was excellent, but images would have really helped the themes of perseverance and resilience. Another adjustment would be to vary the delivery style more, maybe adding pauses or transitions that emphasize the emotional importance of certain statements and just sounding a little more human because I kind of was very robotic which was fine in telling her story but I could’ve done better.
What surprised me most was the degree of her own personal growth beyond sports that her answers uncovered. She was big on selflessness, persistence, and having her brother in her life which transcended what I had initially expected. It was cool because Angelina is very quiet and I would have never expected her sports experience to be that which was cool to hear, and very fun project overall.
